Washington Evangelical Free Church (WEFC) is a Bible centered church that is serious about spiritual growth. We are a small but friendly congregation concerned about our own individual walks with God, but also with a concern about the souls outside of our walls. We foster a strong relationship with God and His Word and want to show that love to others. We demonstrate this by our programs not only for our own, but also to those outside our membership. We are very proud of our AWANA program, which is a great outreach into our community. We have seen many saved through this program including parents that started out just dropping off their children to deciding to attend on a regular basis.
We are pleased to be able to have two services every Sunday morning. Our first service offers traditional hymns and songs with piano accompaniment and our second service, which offers a more contemporary style of music including keyboard, guitars and drums. The pastor brings the same message at both services. Light refreshments are available to all between the two services. This is a great time for fellowship among all attendees.
We offer childcare from newborn to toddler during our second service. We also have a Children’s church for kids 5 years – 4th grade during second service. For Sunday School, we are currently offering 2 classes for children and 1 adult class. Every summer we send invitations to the neighboring schools to join us for a week of fun and enjoy teaching the children God’s word for Vacation Bible School. During the school year, we have Youth Group for grades 6-12. Their favorite event of each year is the annual trip to Springhill in Michigan for the Winter Retreat. Fundraisers are held every year to raise money so that no teen that wants to attend will be left behind.
We offer several small connection groups, which include: Two Women’s Bible studies, one in the morning and another in the evening on AWANA days. Prayer group on Tuesdays is dedicated to lifting up in prayer the people of our church, community, nation or any requests that have been made. Bible Studies are offered on Mondays and Tuesdays evenings. Men’s prayer group meets once a week at a local McDonald’s along with the men of other local churches. Women’s ministries have special events
when possible. We at WEFC are serious about spiritual growth, and want to offer an atmosphere of caring, warmth and friendship while showing God’s love to all.
Valparaiso and the surrounding community is a great place to raise children. It offers great schools, (we even host Victory Christian School in our building) and a highlypraisedUniversity. Valparaiso has a vibrant downtown with many shops and restaurants centered around a courthouse square. We also have larger national chain shopping centers conveniently located, one of which, Porter Vale is in our church’s “backyard”. Something new Valparaiso now offers is a downtown ice skating rink in winter with an outside theater pavilion in summer. We are only a short drive to Chicago and are only a 15-minute drive to the Lake Michigan and the Dunes National Lakeshore. We consider that Valparaiso has all the big city benefits, with a small town feel.
